| After graduating from Meiji University's School of Law, Shinohara set his sights on filmmaking and studied under directors Yoshimitsu Morita, Kichitaro Negishi, Shusuke Kaneko and Shun Nakahara as an assistant director.
His 8mm piece "Running High" won a special award at PFF '89, and "Work on the Grass" (in 16mm), received the Grand Prix prize at the 1993 Kobe International Independent Film Festival. As a young and talented film director, Shinohara then spent the following years prolifically releasing a series of movies including "One More Time, One More Chance" (1996), "The Washing Machine" (1999), "What I Can Do For You" (1999), "First Love" (2000), "Suite de jeudi" (2001), "Inochi" (2002), "Jam Films kendama" (2002), "Eau de vie" (2003) and "The Collection of Show Song Encyclopedias" (2003). "The Need to Breathe Deeply" is scheduled to play at theaters in May 2004. |
