KAKUSHI KEN. ONI NO TSUME (original title )
Directed by Yoji Yamada
Two years after the release of "THE TWILIGHT SAMURAI", which has been nominated for Best Foreign Film of the year at the Academy Awards 2004, Director Yoji Yamada and author Shuhei Fujisawa are back with a new period drama. Combining the stories of the "Kakushi Ken (Hidden Sword)" and "Yuki Akari (Snow's Glare)," which portrays the secret love between a man and a woman, director Yamada again works on a moving samurai drama. The action follows Munezo Katagiri, a low-level warrior in the rapidly changing period at the end of the Edo era, when the culture from the west eventually takes over the samurai ways of life, as he finds himself entangled in a series of bizarre and intense events after he masters "Oni no Tsume (Devil's Claw)," a secret sword-fighting technique. He also falls for the Kie, a sad and gentle love that transcends the barriers of social class.
