The film Rail Truck is a human drama that turns on the two universal themes of a boy taking his first steps toward adulthood, and the revitalization of a family on the verge of collapse, setting these against a quietly stated backdrop of Japan’s relationship with Taiwan.

Synopsis
Yumiko Yano, with her sons Atsushi and Toki, travel from Tokyo with the ashes of her late husband to his parents' home in a mountain village in the south of Taiwan.
Yumiko, who married against her parents' wishes, has struggled on in stubborn determination since his death. Her son Atsushi, rebel against both the society in which he has grown up and his mother.
In the rural home of his grandparents, who lived through vast changes in the political landscape and the values that prevail in society, the family rediscovers the bonds that unite it.
